MCTTT will officially be online for 5 years after December 4th. It's truly a blessing that the server has survived for 5 years. I've saw many regulars come and go. Many staff teams come and go. Some have stuck around from the beginning almost which again is insane to me. The server has pretty much either been B5 the entire time or a couple maps with a map rotation sometimes.
We've made quite a few changes as the years have went on but what I'm about to propose will indeed change the future of this server. It will no longer be known as MCTTT if this idea goes through.
Without a doubt server population has been at an all time low lately and I think the main reasoning for that is 2 things.
1. People are simply sick of B5. B5 is a popular map but some of the regulars have played on the same map for years. I don't know how you've done it. But you've managed to pull it off.
2. The recent crashing issues on top of lag screwed us over with maintaining regulars pretty heavily. Both of which seem to be A LOT better now than prior. Most of the crashing was happening after map changes which putting it on B5 only solved that for the most part.
Since you guys are sick of B5 my offer is this. We do not know for CERTAIN but most likely the machine is one of the main reasons the server is crashing on map change. Therefore we will most likely need to change machines. If the machine is changed however the IP address will be changed. We will be moving server location to Dallas which is far better than being hosted in NYC which the MCTTT server currently is hosted. Dallas is just more balanced ping wise for the majority of NA. IF we move machines the biggest con is we will be losing ~5 years worth of players knowing the server IP. It will be wiped clean from their favorites and history. We can heavily advertise the new server IP which should help a bit but old players coming back and being like "wow this server is still online" would cease to exist.
With a new machine comes map rotation. With this new map rotation we would do a non-minecraft map rotation with no css required maps. I know the majority of you are tired of b5. This doesn't mean b5 would be removed from the rotation. It means that you wouldn't be stuck on b5 playing countless hours. The main reason we removed map rotation again was due to crashing issues and I'm pretty sure that a machine swap would solve this.
So do you guys want to do a map rotation that isn't Minecraft map themed or do we stay on B5. Give me your thoughts and suggestions. Be sure to share this with other players on MCTTT as well.
